Trip around the USA

If you are taking 70 east through Columbus to get to DC......then you can go 2 hours north out of you way and stop at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Then take Rt. 76 east to DC. It you're into rock and roll that is.....There's also lots of history in Cleveland to see with some of the best museums around!

How about MINDEN, NE just a few miles south of I-80 near Kearney, NE.
Lots of old car's...

Pioneer Village is one of the nation’s best planned and most comprehensive collections of Americana, covering the period from 1830 to the present. The museum houses more than 50,000 objects in twenty-six buildings. It also includes a restaurant, a lovely gift shop with oodles of unique items, a comfortable motel complex, and a convenient campground big enough for most sophisticated RV’s and small enough for pup tents. Open since 1953, Pioneer Village is a one of a kind. If you can think of some type of collection, it is here. The display items are so well arranged in chronological order of development that they can all be seen by walking less than a mile. You may stroll as you wish around the facilities, or plan to take a couple of days to really absorb all the collections and displays. Open daily, the museum is located at the intersections of Highway 6/34 and Highway 10 in Minden. For more information call 1-800-445-4447 or 308-832-1181 or visit the Pioneer Village website

I'm not sure where Masison on I 90 is. I guessing a typo and you meant Madison. As you come back through there's Wall Drug, that mountain with the 4 presidents carved into it, the Crazy Horse monument, The Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD, site of Custer's last stand, I think Ringling Bros has a museum in Milwaukee. Experimental Aircraft Show in Oshkosh has a museum I believe, show itself I think is in August. Prairie du Chien, south of LaCrosse off I90 was the fur trading center of the Upper Miss. back in the 1800's and has some historic sites on the National Register, if interested.

I believe the gentleman is referring to Medicine Bow Motors in Misoula, <sic Mt. There was some funny stuff happening out there for a while I heard.

Hey Clem, I did a western trip last October and had a ball! I took I70 from MD to CO. Visited friends in Telluride, CO and then on to St George, Utah for the EFV8C/A NWM. Then through the Nevada desert to Sacramento, CA. Then on to Santa Rosa to visit with Vern Tardel for a day. What a treat that was for me! Then north through the Redwood country to visit with Ole Bill for a couple days and see his and his brothers car collections. Then south back through the Redwoods across the Golden Gate Bridge to San Francisco then to SOCAL. Into Arizona to see the Grand Canyon. Then through New Mexico, and on through northern Texas and Oklahoma to Missouri and back on I70 to MD. It was a great trip with lots of scenic stops along the way. Hoping to do a similar trip in 2013 to attend the EFV8C/A Grand National Meet in Lake Tahoe, NV. I hope to do some of the stops that were suggested here for Clem.

Thanks all. We are in Reno now.

We did get to stop at the Bonneville salt flats. I got to walk on the salt! Whatta thrill. We also stopped at Wendover, UT and visited the old air base there. WOW. This is where the Enola Gay and crews trained for the Nuc drops on Japan. They had an air show there and we saw some great war birds.

Currently in Sacto. Will go to the car museum in a few minutes. Got to a fine local show in Sparks yesterday. Great trip. Saw a Model A pickup on a tall pole as advertizing for a car shop. didn't get to stop.

Now in Astoria OR. We watched the sun set in the Pacific tonite. Beautiful holding my Ms.Sandy as we watch the sun's setting over the ship wreck at Ft Stevens. I hope it comes up from the Atlantic Ocean tomorrow!

This morning, Independence Day, we were grabbing a coffee at the Holiday Inn where we stayed and I asked the server about the special memorial site outside. She said that was the town of Medford, Oregon's memorial to their men and women who were lost in wars. Her Daddy was on those sacred stones. We had a big hug together.
God Bless America

happy Forth all.

Currently in Hardin, MT. We had a great tour of the Orphan Girl mine area in Butte, MT. This is a very nice mining display of equipment, homes, businesses and stuff. We stopped in the museum here and found a Model T and A truck and several nicely restored vehicles. Golly Montana is georgeous. With the rainy season expended and climate changing, every thing is green here. Also there is still much snow on the mountain tops.

Visited Sturgis today. Got the T shirt. More bikes in Deadwood than Sturgis. No one in hot leather.
We had a good tour of Custer's last stand area. The NPS does a superb job of telling the complete story of that battle. Great fighters on both sides fighting for their beliefs and home land. If I understood right, beginning in 1999, red marble markers have been placed at spots where indians fell. US markers have been in place for over a century.
Currently near Rapid City at Elsworth AFB.

Clem, 150 miles south of you on highway 385 is Alliance, Nebraska. Check it out, this is where Carhenge is located. An exact replica of Stonehenge, but made with automobiles. A neat place to see and not that far off the beaten path.

Someone earlier mentioned Pioneer Village. I agree, it's worth a visit. From Carhenge (Alliance), drop down to 80 and Minden is on 6 just below 80, a 300 mile trip. A small motel just across the street, not the Hilton, but not that bad either.

Thanks. We did The area around Rapid City today. We watched a few buffalo with calves cross the road right in front of our car. The Mount Rushmore National Park is most empressive as is the drives in the surrounding wooded area. The pine bettle is doing a job on the pine trees.

Off to the Bad lands tomorrow.

Today we did the Badlands tour. Super spectacular. Not crowded at all.

We are nighting in Oacoma, SD. The Missouri is nearby, flooding.

On the edge of town is a huge antique store. Can you imagine several pig oilers for sale in one place???? One pig oiler was the size of an extra big baseket ball. Plus one booth had a wind mill weight for sale. This is the first windmill weight I have ever seen for sale. I dunno how the weight is supposed to work and it was $320 so I passed.

They did have a 1918 gas pump for $600. Seems cheap to me. iron feet, big pointer, some nickel features, etc. I have never seen one before.

Plenty of smalls and goodies that we don't see much of any more.

I did grab the 1944 Ford parts book for $7.

We rolled thru MN today.

Seems the state gov is shut down. Thus no one can get a new fishing liciense. And no booze dealer can get a new alcoholic licences. Miller brewing did not renew in time. In sum, no new fishin liciences and no Miller beer. Dunno why anyone would stay here??

We were rolling along and came upon a sign that said Blue Earth and announced that they had the Green Giant and 51 antigue dealers. Three locals together could not recall nowing of kone antique dealer!! But they really did had the Green Giant. 70 some feet high and cost $43K to build. Also the largest collection of Green Giant memorabilia. The docent said we missed the big weekend 3 day Green Giant festival. Whattaday!!

We are now in Wisconson where they got's beer.

Last nite on the road. We are in Ohio.

Guy here at the hotel has several old cars. I gave him my copy of Hemmings and stirred him up big time. We may have another guy become active in cars again. He used to run a 40 coupe with a caddy aboard.

Family and Friends,
We arrived home this evening after 7400 fun filled miles “on the road again.” We are so reminded of how huge and wonderful this country is. Golly we were above the snow line in late June; participated in and enjoyed the super TCA Convention in Sacramento, CA; held each other as we watched the sun set in the Pacific where the Columbia River flows into it; viewed in the bad lands in July with green grasses everywhere; felt the continuously varying touch of the Prairie winds of summer; watched buffalo and their calves up very close; heard the rush of many swollen rives and tributaries do to the heavy spring rains and the late snow melt; visited three Air force Bases; chatted with so many folks and so much more. We are home now and starting to catch up with reality... or were we in reality throughout our American tour?
