Trim frame for old style license plate

I am looking for a trim frame for the old style licenses plate. The idea is to provide some extra support for the rear plate. Right now if you walk too close it is easy to hook the edge of the plate. (My shop is not as large as I would like it to be.) All I have found so far are the type that fit the modern plates.
The only other idea I can come up with is to cut a metal plate to the size of the license plate and install it behind the license plate.
I am sure I am not the 1st one to have this problem, any help will be appreciated.

When you go to swap meets, be on the lookout for an adjustable license plate frame... They were made in the 50's or so and surround the entire plate... usually made from stainless steel...John

I had the same problem with my boat trailer, so I added license plates that I had saved from previous years, until I had the stiffness I wanted.

I have a couple of ones that look like this or similar.

Bob Drake's catalog has license plate frames for various years with different dimensions. $15 each I think...check his website.

Word of warning.....license plate sizes varied from state to state up until the mid fifties when the feds mandated a universal size. I've found that the " universal" or trombone frames are crap and usually miss the correct bolt placement. Try a metal backing plate. Mine is louvered and painted to mtch.
