Trico wiper / 1932 Ford Cabriolet

I’m rebuilding a Trico windshield “K” motor wiper for a 1932 Ford Cabriolet and from the Trico products catalog it appears that I might have two extra parts. Does anyone have experience with rebuilding them?

Matt,

Your last photo holds the key to those two little "extra" parts. Your wiper motor shown in the second photo is a very late '32 or maybe not '32, but rather '33 or post-'32 service part with a snap-on cover on the back. Only in this case someone has adapted the '32 back cover with those two little pieces normally attached to the wiper motor casting (not loose as in your case) with two round head slotted machine screws to give the wiper motor the appearance of a '32 wiper motor. Please consult page 16-12 of your copy of the book.

There's nothing missing from the wiper motor in your second photo except the deeper original snap-cover with dimples on the sides and no holes for screws.

David,

Thank you! The cover is a snap on.

Matt

The bottom of mine seems to more resemble that of the one in the '32 book.

Interestingly enough, the Trico Products catalog lists two different motors for the '32 Cabriolet: RSB-174 and KSB-174.

The diameter of the shaft where it passes through the front and rear edges of the main casting was changed along the way before the change in the rear covers and internal mechanism, but the plated wipers have no part number markings, unlike some of the non-plated wiper motors with stenciled-on part numbers. As a result there's no easy way to know which came first.
