Help!!!!!!! I put a "rebuilt" transmission that i purchased from a man name John in Ohio and after a few hundred miles I have a clicking noise in first and second gear coming from the transmission. I am trying to get through the summer without pulling the transmission. Anybody have any ideas what could causing this? Would love to get an easy fix to get me through the summer

What year and type? My guess would be a chipped input or cluster gear as these two have pressure on them in first and second. they just turn with no torque on them in 3rd or direct. But if you know how to contact John that would be the first course of action. Sometimes no matter how careful we are these things happen.

I would drain the trans and see if you have any strange pieces come out with the oil. If you have a piece of tooth or something like that, it may or not last. A friend of mine however is running around for over a year now with about 1/2 of a tooth missing from something but I think it is in the Low-Reverse area.

A clicking in Low and Second is almost definately the main drive gear or the front gear on the cluster as has been previously posted.

Take the top (or side cover) off and have a look.

I have delt with John several times and once had a problem with a part. He took care of it without a problem. Remember, we are dealing with a lot of old stuff and we can not always tell if something is about to fail. Most gears look just fine right up until the time they chuck a tooth.

Good luck,

Let us know what you finally find out.

Just my opinion,

Chris.
