hello can anyone tell me how to take the shifter off the top ****** cover below the stick theres a ring is it screwed on or spring loaded thanks paul

The retaining cap is screwed on to the shift tower. Simply unscrew it and
the stick swivel disc, coil spring and a fiber or leather washer will be released.
It's not at all uncommon to require the use of a strap or chain wrench to per-
suade the cap to loosen up.

There is a pin ~ 1/4" in diameter and ~ 1/2" long that is located in a hole on the right side of the tower and fits into a slot on the shift lever pivot. DO NOT let this pin fall into the gear box if the top is still bolted on the case.

yes you can get the 79 to work but you really want the 83-86 ford rts and try to stay away from the 41% o.d. the 37 is best for the V8s
