In his Transmission book, Vern Tardel shows a homemade transmission stand. Basically, it's a piece of 3/4" pipe welded into a hunk of rectangular tubing that can be clamped into a stout vise. "Looks good," I thought, but I don't have a vise big enough. So, I came up with a design with the 3/4" pipe, but welded up to five pieces of angle, kinda like the base of an office chair and can be used on a bench top. I sized it so it would fit into a nice sized steel pan for washing parts. I have a couple of old bed frames I've picked up, ran some pieces thru the chop saw and took them to my welding class one night and came up with first picture.
Then, I thought to myself, "One of the things I might want to do is drain the trans into the pan." Hard to do that with the pipe screwed into the bottom of the housing. Dragged out some more bed frame angle iron, back to the chop saw and back to welding class. Came up with a second design that also fits into the pan.
