Transmission Problem

I drove my '28 coupe to the service station to put air in the tires today. It was running great! Got ready to leave and it would not go into any gear. The gear shift was moving properly, but none of the gears would engage. Any ideas where I should start?
 
There's quite a few things that could break and do this,but if you heard no noise and one minute it worked and the next it didn't I would first look for a sheared axle key.
 
Thanks for the replies. I will check what you have mentioned. The speedometer doesn't work, so I can't use that as a guage.
