Transmission Noise

There is noise in the transmission area when coasting with clutch depressed.
600 wt. oil serviced
Throwout bearing new
Pilot bearing new
Flywheel housing aligned
Flywheel wobble checked OK
When descending a grade in second gear there is no noise. Same situation,
when clutch depressed get noise. Shift to neutral noise goes away. No
noise at any time in 3rd gear or when car under power. Seemed to be some
noise when coasting back in reverse also with clutch depressed.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Dave,
Just could be the cage bearing that fits inside the input shaft to support the
main shaft. Do you have any noise parked, out of gear, foot off the clutch?

There is no noise parked, out of gear with foot off the clutch. Only when clutch
depressed and in second gear. Noise stops when taken out of gear which leads me to
think it is in the second gear bearings or something. Dave

Dave,
There is no bearing for second gear. You may what to look at the U/joint, depending
on the month/year, should be an easy look. Also removing the shift tower, pushing/
pulling on the main shaft, and looking inside. DON"T run the engine with the tower
removed. Try these 2 checks with the rear end off the ground.
