Transmission grease

I installed my ****** to the engine. I put a light coat of grease on the ****** shaft that goes into the clutch grooves and on the clutch fingers also on the face of throw out bearing. (Just light coat). Will this get into the cutch and cause it to slip?

it could, but it usually doesnt cause clutch to slip, just grab and chatter, never put any grease inside the bell housing, it can get thrown off onto the flywheel, pressure plate and clutch

Thank you. It is not in the car yet so I can take it off and wipe it clean with some solvent. Should be able to get it off.

Would u take the pressure plate off and get the clutch disk out or just take a screw driver on a rag and try to wipe the grooves clean?

A rag and screwdriver should remove any excess grease. I always put a thin coat of grease on the splines and clutch fingers and have never had a problem.:)

I like to lube all the moving parts on the pressure plate, and this grease won't get on the disc.

You're welcome.
Here's another picture of that ****** and bellhousing. I like to lube moving parts, from spring leafs to door hinges.:D

BTW, I've learned to always slide the disc on the splines before installing it to make sure it slides nicely. In the 70's I installed a new disc in a 60's Ford pickup without trying it first. After the job was all done I found the clutch would drag because it wouldn't slide enough to release.

I use a SMALL amount of grease on the input shaft splines, throw out bearing slide and pivot areas, clutch fork if appl on all cars. You can develop squeaks and binding by not using anything

Tom, are you just using white lithium grease in those shaft bushings?

You're welcome.
