Transmission Drums rubbing

Here we are again! 1925 Coupe

Cleaned and inspected drums, bushings and gears. Bushings will get replaced.

I did notice that the low gear and reverse drum rub at the outer edge. Apparently, the thrust faces must be worn. What I'm thinking of doing is chucking them in that lathe and taking 0.020" off each mating edge. Any harm in that? I would think that the rubbing condition would create noise, add friction and put cast iron dust into the oil.

Your thoughts please.

Racemo: that sounds strange before going through the trouble to machine them I would magnaflux them and make sure they're ok before going any further.

After passing the magnaflux I would check the low speed to see how thin the outer drum is.
Then if that is ok then you can machine the drum to re establish the clearance.
