I know this isn't for a 36

Here is mine in very bad shape:

How close will the first one fit except for the ebrake handle?

Maybe lay one over the other and see what's the same, what's close and what isn't even close. Tweak the new one to be as close to the old one as possible. Someone good at working with sheet metal could make the new one look and fit like the old original sample having the same dimensions and contours. If you could borrow someones good/original '36 transmission cover, you could do the same type of overlay procedure and make yours into one just like the original sample pattern. Also, keep an eye out here and on eBay. If you find a deal on a nice '36 trans. cover jump on it and sell your old one to someone who likes the challenge of reworking sheet metal.

the first one looks like a 40 as there is no hand brake hole .also the cut out is in adifferent location as the 40 shift ciover is different then the 36 .the 36 cover is reproduced .

The '40 passenger car transmission cover would not have a floor shifter hole since shift mechanism went to column that year.

Where can the reproduction '36 transmission cover be ordered from and what is the cost?

John-

I believe the last '36-'40 transmission covers were reproduced by Early Ford Parts several years ago. They eventually dropped them due to declining interest and the cost for making new ones. However, there are some fiberglass ones being made. I am not sure but I think Be-Bop (TN) is making them.

It is a '37-'39. Will not fit a '36 (different bolt pattern). Can fit a '40 but need to cover the shift hole or learn to live with engine fumes!

Here are some photos.

After looking at the photo of your original cover, I think there's enough there to fabricate repair pieces to weld in. I have a 35 cover that I've replaced most of the passenger side of. It came out fine and it looks original. The other posts indicating that the other cover you have is a 39 appears to be correct and it is significantly different than the 35/36 type.

The easiest way to repair it is to use fiberglass cloth. I did one by getting a piece of fine weave glass cloth, Boat stores carry it along with many other places, Instead of using resin I used POR paint. So much easier than having to mix 2 part resin and only having a short time before it starts to harden. First put a heavy coat of POR on the complete cover and carefully lay the cloth on it using your brush to make sure the cloth is saturated and down smoothly on entire the cover. Let is harden overnight and put on 3 or 4 coats letting it harden completely between coats. It is easy to cut the excess glass with a heavy knife then it can be painted black after scuffing it a little with 200 sandpaper to get good paint adhesion. I have done a couple the oldest over 15 years ago.
