transmission compatbility??

We have a 39 gear set mounted in a 1937 case that we want to use in our stock '35 Can we just bolt this '37 transmission into the '35 or do we have to make modifications to the '35 drive train to get this combination to work? Thanks for your technical help. Happy v8ing Mike

I am 99% certain the only two things you'll need to do is change the rear transmission mount which is a simple R&R and you'll need to modify the shift lever. The '35 lever will not function with the '39 gear set.
You can either use the '39 lever with most likely a little bending. Or, you can cut off the bottom of the '39 lever and weld it to the bottom of the '35 lever.

Plus, if you use the later shift tower, you'll need to modify the cutout in the transmission cover [floorboard]

Doesn't the 35 have the earlier shift tower that leans back and will not take the 39 shift fork?

Folks have modified the 2nd/high shift fork to reach the dimension of the 91A synchro sleeve but it has to be welded. I'm not sure if the early 2nd/high fork is cast or forged. Cast iron welding it tricky and the mod may not be as strong as the 91A fork. The later shift tower is not in the same position as that early type angled back tower as was previously mentioned. The double detent tower used from 1938 or so is a better set up though.

Just run the later 39 type double-detent tower and shift lever. If you don't like the look of the 39 lever, then cut and splice - but be sure to deal with the fact that the 39 shift tower points straight up and the earlier shift towers are slanted. You can't mix/match any parts between the two without serious surgery.
