Ordering Kevlar lining w/rivets and would like to know the appropreate method of rivet installation. I have observed rivet heads on lining side and rivit heads to the band side. Which is prefered/correct?

Thanks you for your response.

Re: Transmission Band Riveting

Drive the split rivet into the fabric of the lining. The split ends go ACROSS the lining, not in line with the band. That keeps any brass rivet wear on the face of the drum to a minimum.

Instructions come with most linings, but if not, the easy way is to use a pine 2x4, rounded top edge is better, to allow the curve of the band to fall away, then drive the rivet into the hole of the band, into the fabric, and the rivet tangs will go into the wood and split over partially. Then spread them with a tool, seat with ball pein hammer to flush down in the fabric.

In addition to what TModelman says, make sure you start at the ends first. The instruction usually mention this but it is important.

While asking the questions here is a good thing I would encourage you to get a copy of the service manual. It's not that expensive and it has a wealth of information at your finger tips.
