transmision

does anybody know what year lincoln zepher trans mission gears will fit in a 40 ford transmision . I have been offered a complete I believe late 40's unit . could possibly be a little latter due to having a tail on the unit .not sure what years will work? I know this is a tuff question to answer but any info would help. unit is 250 miles from me so a picture is a little hard to get but I can try. thanks everyone.

Through 1948... You don't really want gears before 1940, ratios are the same as Ford- but my guess is that they would function...

The short answer: The Lincoln input shaft (18 or 19 tooth) Lincoln cluster gear (26 or 25 tooth) and Lincoln second gear (24 tooth will give you a Zephyr gearset. But buy Mac Van Pelt's transmission book for all the necessary details. It is excellent.

Mac's book is a must and he has the parts and know's what will work the best for your application.

From what little I know, I stayed away from the lincoln gear set due to the noise, I remember a post saying that they were a little more audible due to the cut in those gears.

I've never noticed any difference in noise with the Lincoln gears if in good condition. Gear cuts appear the same as Ford. The early 1932-35 Ford straight cut low/reverse gears were a little more noisy.
