Trans popping out of second

I have a model B engine and Trans in my model A, just finished putting the new engine and trans in fired it up and took it for a drive, it was hard to get it in second gear, so I pulled it apart to find out why and could find nothing, no play in the shafts no worn gears or syncros, the ball bearings and shafts for the shifter are all new as are the shift forks.
The transmission in a crate with the engine when I got the car and after checking everything it checked out to be as new as one could get Yet I am still having it pop out of second. I put it in second gear and pulled the shifter housing off and looks like its not fully engaging into second.
Is there a way to lengthen the throw to make it go up into second all the way?

69,
There are 2 different syncro rings one 1.401 wide for use with the B gear set
and the other 1.345 wide for the mid 30's gear set. You may have the wrong ring
or the ring may be installed backwards. The small lip on one face must face the front
of the trans. A loose 2nd gear.....too much end play or too loose on the bushing
can drive you nuts also.
Get Mac Van Pelts book. Like everything Ford...the obscure details can
really bite you.

PS...Don't forget worn detent springs and plungers in the tower
