Tractor Supply 6 volt battery

Brother in law used to work at a auto parts store, told me the batteries put on sale had been sitting on the shelf a long time and they always had a lot of warranty issues with them. Told me to look at the month/year sticker on the side of the battery and ALWAYS buy one only a month or two old. Only bad battery I've had in the last many years is a 6 volt Optima I bought a year ago that wouldn't hold/take a full charge. Rod

There are only 2 companies that make lead-acid batteries and I think they are Johnson Controls and Exide. The companies that have them made and rebadged also give the maker specs so there can be a big difference in 6 or 12v batteries quality and price.

This is a myth. Last time I checked there were over 100 world wide. Many are made overseas.

I have used Interstate . Last about 5 -6 yrs. First battery I got was a NAPA and lasted about 16 months. Big Interstate dealer near me and I get fresh ones. They are the correct size for my 42.

Point of reference, there is at least one other battery mfg in the USA, East Penn, in PA, and often sold under the name Deka. PA is also home to Specialty Tire that makes vintage tires.

I looked at the TS on line selections and could not find 6v batterys. Both our local RK stores here in the East TN area carry 6v batterys.

I checked the "Rural King" website. They list a 625 CCA 6 volt battery for $44.99 plus a $12.00 deposit. The website didn't have information about size or warranty, so I wouldn't order one online. If you can go to the store and get specifics, it might be OK. I like the extra 30% capacity of the Optima though.

Somewhat related - Amazingly, the factory original battery in my 2008 Tacoma (which I purchased new in April of 2008) is still going strong after 10 years of service. This lead-acid battery was manufactured in America for Toyota by Johnson Controls. I have never had a lead-acid car/truck battery last 10 plus years! - They must have put some sort of 'FM' juice in it. I wonder how many more years I will get out of it. I wonder what the record is....

I got 10 years from my 1986 F 150 that I bought new. The battery didn't last much longer and died suddenly leaving me stranded. My 1939 PU has about 6 years on the battery and I will shop at Tractor Supply next week for a new one. 6 volt bat. don't last as long as 12 Volts.

Farm and Fleet in Wisconsin-Iowa-Illinois just ran a sale a couple weeks ago on 6V car and truck batteries, $39.95. I bought one up in Moline, closest F&F to me.

I had 6 years on the one I replaced, had a mechanic do a load test on it and he said it was fine, but at 40 bucks I went ahead and bought a new one.

They used to last me about 3-4 years but since I got an EVR put in the generator on our '36 PU, they last quite a bit longer. Also use a trickle charger, Deltran Power Tender, once a month or so to keep them up to date.

Good luck. A hundred bucks is awful pricey I'd spend that money towards an Optima before I'd go with a $100 lead acid battery.

my vote goes to 6v. Optima also. I paid $120 including shipping from Amazon 3 years ago...still going strong...800 CCA.

I just got a battery at Rural King and had a riding mower battery to trade in and the battery cost 44.99 and 3.00 dollars tax. I am putting this battery in my 39 Ford that I drive on tours. Boy that a big store. That the first time I have been in one. I will go back. You can take your dog in if you want. Maybe a good place to drop off a stray dog? My luck I would be bringing one home. I am a sucker for a stray one.

I bought my last 6V battery at rural King in June of 2012. It was labelled as a tractor battery, but the perfect size and cost around $44.00 then. They carried three different sizes of 6V batteries. I think it is on the blink now at 6 years old, but I just went in to the Rural King website and they are no longer listed. Nothing but a golf cart battery. So then I went into the Autozone website and they don't list any 6V car batteries. OOOps.
That's not good !

I just bought a 6V car battery at O'reilleys auto parts. They list for $94 and if you have a friend that has a commercial account to get one for you it will come down to $75. Only a year warranty though.
