Tractor Supply 6 volt battery

Tractor Supply has 6 volt Battery for $89.00 and you must have a trade in. But only a year warranty. I have never bought one there but it pays to shop around. Anyone know of any place cheaper than that?

That's pretty inexpensive. What are you starting with that battery? The old junker?

A couple of years ago I paid $100 for a group 2 battery at NAPA. One year guarantee on most 6 volt batterys.

My experience with their 6-volt Exide batteries has been bad. They have been lasting around 18 months and I had two which went bad under their warrantee. Years ago their batteries lasted around six years or so in the same cars. I now have 6-volt Optima's in three of my cars and will replace the Exide battery in another car with an Optima when it dies. The scrap metal place near me offers $15.00 for old batteries so this helps when I buy Optima's on Amazon.

Agreed. I have an optima in my antique. They do make generic AGM batteries as well which are a little less price wise.

Look at the CCA. Sorry I don't have the required number on the top of my head, you need to do a little research. They make 6 volt batteries for flashlights that are a lot cheaper but they lack the required cca's..

There are only 2 companies that make lead-acid batteries and I think they are Johnson Controls and Exide. The companies that have them made and rebadged also give the maker specs so there can be a big difference in 6 or 12v batteries quality and price.

Be careful to check the CCA. There are full-size 6V batteries out there that are used in golf carts and don't begin to have the CCA (don't know the group number if there is one listed). I don't know how the Tractor Supply units measure up. And don't ask me how I've learned all this!!

I used a Tractor Supply 6v in my Ford 8N, it lasted about 5-6 years, I brought it inside during the winter and used a trickle charger ocaisionally.

An added benefit of the Optima is it is a sealed battery. It would gas off and/or leak acid on your chassis or firewall. Worth the extra cost for me.

Correct. And when you have a junker like ol redneck you need the leak free battery.

Should be a "starting" battery.

It's too bad that OPTIMA stopped making a 6 volt battery in the size that will fit in the battery carrier under the floor in my '34. The 6 volt batteries they are making now are too tall for this application....

For those who have a regular 6V battery on a trickle charger, take the caps off the cells and dump about a 1/4 of a teaspoon or so of epsome salt in each cell, will help keep the plates clean and charge receptive and last longer.

I forget what the dimensions are, but yes, a drop down tray will have to be made if the taller Optima battery is used. There's a company out there by the name of gears to go that puts any battery in a ford script case. Have not done business with them yet nor have I seen the quality of their work.

I bought a Tractor Supply 6 volt for my Buick.

It's one of those long narrow jobs that are still used by the tractor guys.

Works fine so far. On it's second year with lots of cranking and starting, but not much driving.

I happened across an ad for one of those "Optima in a Ford Case" batteries. When I saw the associated price, I immediately lost interest.

I have a tractor supply 6V in my non-Ford truck and have abused it dearly for the last three or four years. I'll go get another one when this one quits. I use it now for show, other wise there is usually an Optima in it and my 35 Conv Sedan and Model T.
