Torque tube seal

If there are any burrs or you get the seal cocked during installation it won't go in easily. Bratten's sells the right parts.

You need to also buy the insertion tool in the catalog. Screw the insertion tool onto the end of a length of 1/2" water pipe. Hopefully you removed the bearing race sleeve and the old seal before trying to install the new one.

The race and the seal are removed together by placing a 1 and 1/16" six-point deep socket on a drive shaft standing vertical with the spline end up. Place the torque tube over the drive shaft and bounce it a number of times while holding a rag over the end to catch the race and the seal.

The new seal has to be installed first. In installs from the front of the torque tube. Stand the torque tube vertical and drive the seal into place with the insertion tool. The race comes next. Squeeze it in a vice to slightly close the split. attach a piece of safety wire around it at the very top. Put a chalk mark on the top edge just above the dimple. Put a chalk mark on the torque tube above the mating dimple. Using the flat side of a large socket and an extension tap it carefully into place. Make certain the dimples aligned and there is no gap around the outside perimeter of the race.

It is also a good idea to clean any crud out of the dimple in the torque tube before you proceed.
