Torque tube 36 5 window

Boy I had a great time with this. Earlier I started a thread about a noise coming from the torque tube and you kind gentlemen told me the culprit was the pin that holds the driveshaft to the pinion. You were correct. Now getting to it was a challenge. I had learned that if you remove the torque tube from the rear of the transmission and unhook the brake line along with the emergency brake cable, speedo gear and shocks that sucker would slide on out. Nope the torque tube head was to big to get through the hole behind the ******. Luckily I noticed that the two support rods that extend from each side of the axle to a center point on the tube were bolted on to a bracket that was welded to the tube. Took the bolt out of that and the bolts holding the tube on the rear end and slid them apart and waalaa. Now to put it all back together for the Great American car show on 24th at the Liberty Memorial here in KC. Wish me luck. I hope Sweet pea brings home a trophy.

how are you going to get the washer, speedometer gear and small snap ring on as you guide the driveshaft into the universal joint?
the driveshaft/ torque tube should fit through the tunnel , the cover has to be unbolted and the 2 pieces separated

I think at that point I would want to see the condition of the front bearing and race before I put it back together

All is good. The car is a body off restored car done in 1989. The gentleman that owned it prior to me only put 1200 miles on it in 30 years. Everything I am working with is pretty much new. I separated the torque tube from the trans so today it all goes back together. I have a complete gasket set. All is well.
