Torque tie rid nut

Hi I posted this on my other thread but thought it may be better to ask here.

What is proper torque for nuts holding tie rod? Or does it not matter - just tighten real good and put cotter pin in?

Never torqued one myself and would be hard to do as you need to line the castle nut up with the hole in the tie rod for the cotter key.

Thanks Jerry - You use a breaker bar to tighten or just a 1/2 socket wrench

They do not need to be that tight, a 1/2 ratchet or wrench should be fine. Try to pay attention to where you are at tightening the castle nut so you end up in the correct position.

No specific torque needed. Just use a box end wrench to tighten nut up nice and snug with no play so that cotter key lines up. I have always found that you get a better "feel of tightness" using a box end wrench instead of a ratchet. For that extra touch of class use those little plastic covers on the grease fittings. Perch bolt is double nutted to protect threads when using bottle jack.
