Torque spec's??

I have a 1948 '59' motor that has a 8ba rotating system in it with the later distributor also. Somewhere I read that they did this on a 48 1/2 model. There is some differences in the torque spec's between 48 and 49. Which one should I be following on this motor?

Ok, to me this seems like if the block is 59 I would use the 59 specs for it. If the rotating parts (rods?) are 8ab I would use the 8ab specs for them. I would think the only items involved with a different torque value would be the rods unless I am overlooking something.

Thanks for the info guys!! It's always nice to be doing it correct. I'll be much smarter about this on my second one.:)

1948 cars had the 59A motors but the 48 F1 pickup had the 8BA engine. I've seen F1 pickups where the owners put a mix match of part with a 59A block. They were probably salvage yard scavenging and that was all they could come up with. A lot of the earlier Canadian engines used insert cranks instead of floaters too but most folks opt for the early crab type distributor since the Holley Load-O-Matic is such a boat anchor.

This is the motor and pan. The motor isn't an 8ba. The pan looks like a truck.

Here's the numbers on the block. Kinda blurry, but reads, Star,799A-I603225, Star. Like you said, a mix match of parts I guess. Funny though, the bore is still 3 3/16 and no ridge at the top at all, so this thing didn't get much use in it's day. Not a crack in it either.

Don't know what to say. It's the only numbers on it up there. What would be the reason for that? Yet another mystery.

Ford didn't put numbers on the blocks - only on the transmission bellhousing. Some states req'd block numbering. It looks like someone (a Dealer with correct stamps for 48 on) punched the '47 car vin into the intake rail. Pretty normal event.

So the vin wasn't there from Ford, but the stamping looks authentic for late series stamps. No way to ever know for sure.

That number fits right in to the '47 Mercury series (*799A-1,412,709* to *799A-2,071,117*) as described in the V8 Album by the EFV8 club. As someone else said, Ford didn't put numbers on the block. They put them on the transmission bell. However, some states may hve required the block to be stamped for whatever reason or maybe it was done by a rebuilder.
