Torque setting for lug nuts.

Did you use original wheel nuts or modern repops?

The moderns are known for having the cone too long (or lack of thread recess) which prevent them from fully engaging the holes in the wheel. It seems tight - and it is - but not tight to the wheel.

Original wheel nuts tumbled rust free threads cleaned and painted. Very seldom use an impact wrench on my Model A and NEVER on the lug nuts.

And you just started page 3.:D LOL

I was thinking the same thing, and it's not even winter, so we can't use cabin fever as an excuse.

When it is very hot one retreats to the comfort of the man-cave and finds out what the latest point of discussion is.

Subjects which would otherwise be passed by as self-evident get addressed simply because someone doesn't want to go back out into the shop.

Standard torque for a modern 1/2" fine thread tapered lug nut (which is identical to a Model A lug nut) is 100 ft. lb. Ford steel back then was every bit as good as, maybe better than, steel today.

NO NO NO!!! 55-60# more than sufficient and safe.. Do not tighten to 100# ever...

Volvo on a hook, noise in R/R, grabbed the wheel & it came off! Lug nuts still there, wheel holes this l------------l big!
He just got NEW tires & jockey forgot to tighten 1 wheel.
