Has anyone ever used a top oiler? Any comments,Pros or Cons? It's supposed to spray a mist of Marvel Mystery oil into the combustion chambers. Thanks Ed

I have the Ampco Top Lubricator in our '39 Ford CS and our '39 LZ. I use MMO in the top lubricator and I've seen significant improvement in both the V8 and V12 as a result. I would recommend using a top lubricator, at the very least, it can't hurt. Vic

Thanks Vic I use a liitle MM in my gas tank now,so I thought maybe it might work a little better in a top oiler. Thanks again Ed

I have used one for years, these things are VERY COMMON on flatheads. They keep valves freed-up and help in keeping things clean inside the engine. To me, the engine actually sounds quieter. Some folks claim it aids in cooling.

Rather than drill a couple of holes in the firewall, I just used the radio mounting bolts and hung a couple of straps down to the injector for mounting. I also have my voltage regulator mounted on the same straps.

Late last year I had my '35 in a car show next to a '65 Chevy. The Chevy had an engine that had been literally "dripped" in chrome. So much so you really needed sunglasses to view it! You would think that would be what everyone was looking at but, not so! The crowd was huddled around my lowly flathead wondering what the oil injector was! Whereas, the poor Chevy owner looked like the proverbial Maytag repairman. :)

At another show I came across another '35 with an oil injector. He had a label on reservoir jar reading "Viagra"! That got a lot of laughs!

There is a guy that bought a load of Ampco oilers and advertised in EFV8 Times. I bought 12 of the first ones he sold. He may have adaptors for other carbs. Also have a few MMO ones, they made several types. The MMO works best added to the gas which helps clean the fuel line, pump and carb. The injector puts it in the neck of the manifold below the carb and is drawn into the engine by vacume. I use the injectors because I drive differant cars and don't remember if I put it in the tank or not. Attached are a few pictures. Most have brackets I made or modified so I didn''t have to drill holes in the fire wall. I have Columbia rears in all the ones I drive. If you look close you can see I put the injector line in a T with the vacume plate for the rear drawing in the MMO. Make sure the vacume plate draws the vacume into both throats. There are plates that only draw into one and would only do 4 cylinders. G.M.

You can put what ever is thin enough in but it DON"T have the "mystery" in it. I have a friend who has an interest in a chemical company that has been a MMO fan for over 60 years. He had it checked and they found a material in it that was to expansive to make a copy. MMO has the source and I would guess buys tank car loads. Be sides MMO and auto trans fluid is not much differance in price. I even put it in my diesel engine fuel once in a while to keep the injectors and pump clean. I just found a label I made a number of years ago to put on the Ampco jar or a mason jug that fits on some of the MMO injectors. You can print and use these if you want. G.M.

Thanks for all the info guys, and really like the brackets GM. Looks like I'll be making something similar real soon. I might even use the MMO tag,it does look nice. I did like the viagra joke on your friends 35, Flatheadfan Thanks again Ed

Clem I just happened to think about another MMO "SAVE". About 20 years ago I purchased a black 56 T-Bird with an automatic trans. When it shifted it would almost snap my neck every time. I put a quart of MMO in it and drove it for 15 or 20 minutes. After it shifting a number of times it smoothed out to the point I could hardly tell when it shift. Why did it take MMO when it was already full of automatic trans fluid? G.M.

Best I remember, ATF does not contain detergent. That is why the contaminates stick to the pan, etc. It is 10 wt SAE hydralic oil with a dye in it to identify leaks.

Works good
Lasts long time
