top iron disassembly

How does one remove the top irons from each other? I need to take one of the irons off the get it re-chromed and so I can lacquer/paint the rest. The hinge points look pretty permanent...
 
Since you are speaking of re-chrome, I am presuming you are speaking of a deluxe version.

They are riveted...peened. You will have to drill (actually, I use an end mill) and remove them. Then rivet them back.

May want to find your rivets and get a game plan first. I often use stainless steel around the chromed members.
 
Thanks Bill. After reading your reply I took them down to a local restoration/Hot Rod shop and the guy there is going to remove them for me and paint the rest of the irons.
