What is the part number for the Ace hardware bearing you can use in the top of the steering mast? Thanks/ma.

I have Bruceguard's (Close but not I am sure it is not spelled that way.) is the best. It's a little pricey but works great.

Installing Top bearing into steering column

Hi Lawson,
I'm having some trouble getting mine to fit down in my 1939 column. I suspect I just didn't get it clean enough inside. Had to really hit it hard with the inserting tool included and I think I still have a little further to go. Did you or anyone else have to really pound it down? It's too late for my install but maybe it'll help someone else.
Thanks,
Bruce

Chet-

I have used both types of bearings. They both work well and are cheap. The Ford parts are C3DZ-3517 and B1AZ3518-A and cost about $6. The "hardware bearing" is available at a lot of hardware stores not just at Ace outlets. Cost is about $4. Again either bearing will provide a big improvement in steering effort.

Bruce: Yes, It is a very snug fit, or at least it was on my truck. I would suggest if someone is going to use Dan's bearing that they sand the inside of the tube nice and slick, and then put a slight film of oil on it and tap the sleeve in. If I recall, and I'd have to look to be sure, it was a tight enough fit (on mine) that it expanded the tube ever so slightly getting it in. Not really enough to notice, however. Lawson
