Tool Box under bed of Pick-Up

I have just finished building and pre-fitting a tool box for in the rear and under the bed of a 31 Wide Bed Pickup. I am half way pleased with it but would make it a bit larger if I re-did it. This one is 6" H, 28" W and 18" Deep. I could have gone to 8" H, 30" W and 24 " Deep. It would have fit much better between extended (Modified) Bumper Brackes as I currently having to use a spacer to make up the difference in width.
I will attaach photo's later as i just got through with my fitting process this evening.
If anyone wants and detail drawings or pictures, let me know where to e-mail then to and I will be happy to do so or if someone has information on what they have done for extra storage in a pick-up, please let me know. Dick B.
 
I did one years ago under my pickup.Mine was only about 3-1/2 inches deep.I used some industrial draw rails that were meant to be used under a workbench in a factory.The draw was metal with a lid,and had to be pulled out all the way to open it.It was a parts draw from the Mack dealership.It had some partitions,which kept the tools from mixing up.If I was to do it again I would do the same thing,but add some support to the crossmembers I hung it from.The floor support crossmember was not made to do what I was asking it to,so I kept an eye on it.Sure enough,a few years later it was cracking around the bolts.It could have been easily corrected,but I decided to hang the spare tire up there with a Datsun winch.That part I bolted through the wooden floor,and as far as I know it is still in use today.
 
Keith, I agree the box needs more support. I put the weight on the modified rear bumper brackets then ran straps from the bumper brackets to the wooden rails on the wide bed. I installed 3/8" GR 5 Bolts through the wood rails at about a 30 degree angle which not only gives it weight support but also sway/wobble support for the bumper brackets. Seems to be very solid and strong. If I build another, it will be 8" tall and will include a slide out drawer.
