Tom Wessenberg - Turn Signals

Tom - First, please excuse me for contacting you through Fordbarn, but I have run out of options. I changed computers because the old one did not fuction properly any more, and I was only able to transfer some of my email addresses and info.

On the old Fordbarn, I remember you illustrating a turn signal flasher using a PB relay, resistor, and capacitor; thus it had the ability to flash without regard to using LED's or bulbs.

I have lost that information, and was wondering if you could send it to me.

Thanks,

Here are a couple pictures showing the schematic of the flasher and switch I used to make the flasher. Depending on the ohms of the relay coil, you may want to try different capacitors and resistors to vary the flash rate, and the length of time the light stays on for each flash. The more microfarads, the slower the flash rate.

I may even go to a 1,200 or 1,500 uf capacitor to slow the rate of the flasher, as this one is a bit faster than most of the cars on the road.

Tom:

I was wondering why you didn't use a base for the relay? It would make it much easier to wire and give you something to mount the relay assembly with.

I hope all is well with you.

Ed

This is just something I threw together one day. I will use the relay mounting stud to mount it someday, but didn't want to add a circuit board or anything else that made it more bulky. I will probably mount the relay behind the kick panel when or if I ever install turn signals.

Tom - Thank you so much for replying to my plea. I have since learned to make hard copies, and now have a "book" of tips, mods, and maintenance procedures.

Again, thank you for the pictures, and also your many other contributions to the Model A.
