Todays Question

Went for coffee this morning with my 29 Roadster. On the return trip I made a hard left off the main drag of town onto the approach to my house, probably 25 to 30 Mph and about half way through the turn I heard a rather health noise that reminded me of when I broke an axle back in my teen years. I thought to stop immediately and then decided to chance rolling on home, a long block with three speed bumps then two abrupt lefts into my garage. Did all that and proceeded off in another car to the gym. I tried to think of what may have broken, both rear axle nuts appear tight and aren't showing any signs of a loose axle end, the car drove fine for that block and the two turns, there was no other sounds out of the ordinary. I checked both from and rear springs thinking a may have broken a leaf, though I have no knowledge of what that sounds like. Last time I broke an axle, 35 Ford, just the last four inches or so sheared and of course the car just rolled to a stop at the curb. Being young and dumb, I changed out the broken axle along side the road and replaced it with a $3 spare from a local junk yard. Didn't replace the gaskets, just Permatexed the old ones and drove off happily to a station to have them pump some lube in the banjo. So my question is, what should I be looking for now? Sounded like a pretty health clunk followed by no adverse effect yet.

see if you can see anything in the banjo. Also jack up the rear end off the ground, start it up, and put in in gear. Then put a foot on one of the rear spinning tires and see if the rear end is noisy thru the spider. Check the transmission fluid, and the differential lube for metal.

start the car and put in gear and see if the car moves, if it does i dont thik its in the drive train, come back with what you find, these guys are good but need more info, opps , didnt see the other post

I/ll do the suggested checks, then come back here. The car pulls itself along okay in all the gears, even backs up.

Mine did that a few years ago about a half mile from home. I turned around and drove it home with no more noises.

No metal in the oil, drove it up a 12 percent grade for a mile and a half, so it's not an axle. Maybe something in the street that I ran over.

Already had the sniper miss trick. 9MM full automatic from across a four lane street and didn't even break the window over my bed. Bullets passed through the center of the double hung window and bounced of a metal rail decoration just inches over my head. Woke me up, but I went right back to sleep thinking it was a bad dream. Got my name and firehouse in the Oakland paper.

Front tire rubbing on a brake rod while turning? My '29 roadster will do that some times.
