HI All,

I finally got my 29 Pickup on the road. Yeah me. Did it all myself with some help from Les Anders. Thank you Les.

Anyway, I was looking for torque specs for the shift tower bolts and the other areas associated with the driveline. I found specs for the rear axle but not for the shift tower or the driveshaft to u joint area.

Oh and the rear shackles. I just put them on snug and added the cotter pins.

Thank you!

As you said no real torque specs for those areas, snug to hold!

you can find a general torque table on line for bolts.
if you can,t judge the tightness of the bolts then use a torque table. for those bolts on the ****** tower use grade 5 in the torque guide.
they are going into cast bosses that could break the inside wall if you use too long a bolt, cross thread or tighten too much. lots of ****** cases will have those areas broken.

5/16x18 grade 5 bolt is probably around 15ftlb, but you should find a torque table and check for yourself.

My grandfather would holler across the shop " is it tight ?"

Yes Grandpa its tight.

He'd holler back, " Well give it another turn !"

After a career of it you instinctively can torque small bolts.. I’ve tested my instinct with a torque wrench and was surprised how well our bodies can be trained.Ford trained their apprentices this way, journeymen taught feel..
