Title VIN Number Question

My title says mine is a 1931. I am not going to take the body off to make sure. Everything points to mine being a 1930. The motor # is June 1930. and the body looks to be 1930. I'm happy and I am not going to take the body off to find out.

I went to our DMV this morning and applied for a title and antique plates. They never questioned the California VIN number and strangely were very courteous and friendly. Now I purchased the Coupe from another Illinois resident who had a Illinois title so that may have made it easier. He brought it into Illinois from Oregon but never mentioned having any problems registering it.

I do have a friend who is battling the state to register his Cabriolet as it came from Connecticut which is a bile of sale state. Seems that Illinois hates BOS ownership documentation and he is going on 6 months trying to get a title.

Now if mine goes thru Springfield and I get a title I'm home free.

While on this subject another thing to consider is the current status of the car's license. I have a Model A that I have been working on slowly for almost 20 years. I have renewed the license ever 5 years or so even though the car is not being driven and the reason is that I have heard of cases where a title that was perfectly acceptable to the DMV in, say, 1995, somehow becomes problematic because it is no longer in the DMV record system because they purged the old records. When somebody goes in to renew the license on an unrecognized title all kinds of problems can come up at the DMV. Check with the DMV in your state about how long they maintain records.
