Title issues and looking for VIN

Hi Folks,

Picked up a little 30 coupe, and sure enough, the title # and the motor # do not match (surprise-surprise :) )

I am getting ready to lift the body from the frame and see if I win the VIN lottery and can

1) Find a readable number
2) The number matches the title

so my questions are:

1) Where, measuring from the front of the cowl, would I find the vin number on top of the frame?.. I would like to find the number with out having to completely pull off the body from the frame if possible

2) if the number is unreadable or different, any thoughts or advice?

Thanks!

The number is usually near the outer edge on the top near the cowl. The outer edge offers better support for the stamping. Years ago I lifted my body about 3 inches, but couldn't find the number. I think I didn't look close enough to the outer edge, plus some numbers are not deeply stamped and are hard to see without having the body off the frame.

Tom is correct on this...also see my website under Additional Studies then go to Letters, Numbers and Codes.

Great! Looks like about 1/2 way between the front brake rod stancion and the 2 bolts that go into the floorboard/cowl area..

That will help.. Now to look for mirrors and lights to be able to show it to the inspector (lol)
