"Tissu-Pak" Oil Filter

Back in the late sixties my Father put one of those on his buick, he raved about it telling everyone how cheap it was and how well it worked. After a summer he had to remove it never told anyone why and traded the car in, he never mentioned it again. Since he was a frugil man I guess it didn'r work out to well.

The width of TP here in the USA is pretty much standard. the paper quality is all over the place. The type of cardboard center tube is also important for its quality. Wholsale TP that is common to large places of employment, hotels/motels, and the average chain fast food restaurant is the type you would need. It should have the single or twin ply that is not soft like Charmin and is tightly wound on the roll. Scott paper is still manufactured here in the states and their industrial brand would be a good choice as long as it isn't the 1000. They did away with the center tube rendering it useless for this purpose. Pom is used at our shop and is available at the Sam's Club here in the states (Wallmart wholesale). It is safe for use in the septic tanks so that's why we use it. It may be a better candidate that the Scott wholesale product. It would be interesting to find out where Frantz gets theirs but it's a secret!

Anyone ever used a cetrifical (centrifuse filter system) on a flathead? it used a drop in paper element and when changed usually is heavily loaded with layers of sludge, no doubt somewhat effective. I am going to see if they are still available. they were an add on bypass filtration system that reminds me of a swirling lawn sprinkler in the center and the oil hits the paper wih a great force and embeds the element with the contaminants to be removed and disposed of at service intervals.
Fordestes,

Many thanks to you all for suggestions, cautions and links.

Ed Greany at FrantzOil has been helpful and has given me confidence that the filter will work, with the correct TP roll, without clogging up oilways.
I just have to find a TP roll of the right size:
4.75" diameter, 4.5" tall, with 1.5" bore.

The only roll I have is not fit for purpose with its mangled core tube, but it was made by Scott Paper Company of Chester PA, and called a ScotTissue Service Roll ("not to be sold through retail stores" - what is that all about?).

Are these still available?

I think that is what you can get at Costco.

I have a TP filter from the old days. I use it and it has worked for 50 years. On my air supply for my spray gun.

brings back great memories of the mess i would make at the gas station using a screwdriver digging the toilet paper out of those filter cans......

FAQ from the website

Q. Can't I still use any brand or type of toilet paper for my Refiner Oil Filter?
A. When the Refiner was first invented, the variety of toilet paper choices was slim! They were all similar. It is true, that you used to be able to go into any grocery store and buy any brand on the shelf. Unfortunately, this has changed in the last 20 years. The choices of toilet paper available today can confuse the average person! For optimal performance of the Refiner, we recommend you use a 1-ply 1000 sheet per roll toilet paper. The purpose is because the paper winds tighter on a 1-ply than on 2-ply rolls since it is not trapping air between the two plies. We have found acceptable TP in stores such as Target, Walmart, and most grocery store outlets.
