I have a 37 ford truck that I'm getting ready to install tires to the orginal rims. What size can or should use.
Thanks in advance

If it is half ton --- 85 horse -- then 600 x 16 were the original size --- black wall of course. 60 horse used 5.50 x 16. If it is ton and a half --- not sure.

Do you want radial or bias-ply tires? Bias tires look correct but radials drive so much better. With some careful looking you can get radials that (in my opinion) look good enough. Also, pickups frequently had 6.50-16 tires installed by owners and I think this was an option when new too.

Here is a picture of my 37 sedan with radials. The small white stripe is installed to the inside so the tires look like blackwalls. I sand blasted my wheels and painted them. I run no tubes and the tires don't lose air. I think I am running 215-75-R16 tires.

Hey 38 coupe thats great imformation, I was wondering if I could use that type of tire. Your car looks great. What kind of supension are you running orginal, or any changes?

My drivetrain / suspension is 99% stock. The exceptions are the tires and a fuel pump I haven't changed yet. I even have the cable brakes.

Assuming you have a pickup and you have 85 horsepower wheels, I see no reason why running radials would be a problem. To run without tubes I would clean and paint the inside of the rims. I was worried that air would leak past all those rivets holding the rims to the wheel centers, but that hasn't happened on me. As far as the tires themselves, I went to Discount Tires and looked at all the available 215-75-R16 tires they had in the lower price ranges (I did this while still a college student) and picked one with a decent looking side wall.

38 coupe I think thats what I'm going to do. You have given me soom ideas thanks/ My old trk. has the orginal cable brakes, and has been setting in a barn since 1955. Orginal engine is gone I'm building a 39 merc. and getting ready to install soon.
