Tire Pump Assembly

Hi, this is Martin in Ohio. Working on refinishing an original e28 tire pump (with the T number on the bottom of the base and script on top) This project was interrupted many times, and now I'm regretting that I didn't make a drawing or take a pic.

Question is: the order of items inside the pump? Starting at the bottom of the pump, is it: nut, washer (on the shaft), leather cup diaphragm facing downward, thin steel washer on top of diaphragm???

Thanks for helping me out. Next time, I'll take notes.
Will post a pic when I get it back together.

Regards and Happy Holidays,

I think you left off a washer. when installing onto the lower shaft start with the thin washer than the leather cup facing down than you have a thick washer (maybe leather) that go`s inside the cup than a lock washer & nut

thanks Don. I stand corrected, I could not remember if there was a lock washer under the nut and it was to early to go out in the shop and look at the time. I just went to out in the shop to take a look at some unrestored oirignals I have. one of them have no washer with a hex nut, and two of them have a small flat washer between a square nut and the thick washer. and the two are the cast ribbed base pumps and one has a 7/16- 1/4 20 nut and the other has 1/2 -1/4 20 nut. it beats me. Merry Christmas too all.

Happy Holidays

Thanks to all the FBer's who posted helpful advice.

Here's a pic of the e28 tire pump, now freshly painted and polished.

(I know, the Ford script in gold is overkill, so shoot me).

Waiting for the correct hose clamps from A&L.

Regards, and Best for the New Year.

Your pump looks good!
Now, if we could only buy a repro hose that actually was made as original, and not a soft rubber hose.

About 5 years ago I bought a Model A tire pump at a swap meet for only $1. It was standing on his trailer fender where it was easily seen and I figured it would have been snapped up first thing. I came across it at the end of the meet and just because the handle and paint were burned off from a garage fire no one paid any attention to it. A new leather, wood handle and paint and it looks like new again. It is the later pump with the steel stamped ribbed base.
