Tire Pressure on 48 Ford

Pressure should be stated on the tire sidewall & used if you want the warranty to stand up. On a lighter car you could go less but not much also if you want mileage use what is stated usually around 32 psi

I always look at the sidewall for max pressure and runs as close as I can for max wear. I have some 215/75r16 diamondbacks and the max is 76 psi.

i bought my wide whites from diamond back 205-75 15 front and 225-75 15 on rear the told me to run 35 psi and use only simple green or 409 to clean the whitewalls, dont use anything with bleach like westerlys whitewall cleaner

The maximum pressure stated on the tire is simply that, the maximum pressure the tire can handle. It has NOTHING to do with what pressure you should be running.
The vehicle (weight, type of suspension, etc.) has EVERYTHING to do with proper pressure.
A good place to start is the owners manual. As you have non-stock tires, that won't help so you'll have to experiment. I'd suggest starting at 32psi and see how it handles and rides.
76#? Crap, I have 10 ply's on my truck and run less than that.

Heh heh he I run 80 psi in this ol F-500. My 3/4 Ton Pu 235/85X16 sez *0 psi max cold

Jeez I need my glasses fixed I previewed this & still screwed it up!!!! Damn bumble fingers anyway. That be 80 lbs psi cold. & yes I know the front tire has a slow leak.

You might also try running a different pressure front and rear. Lower in the front and higher in the rear; this seems to help reduce "pitching" these cars were born with.

I run radials on several of our old cars & trucks (different sizes), 600x16R on our '39 CS, Big-n-Little 15" on our '51 F-1, etc. I find that running 40psi in the radials (both tube and tubeless applications) gives an excellent ride and minimal effort to turn the front wheels in tight spots.

Found your topic , googling for tire-pressure.
Been busy with that and made spreadsheets for it.
Placed a topic about it on this forum.
You can react here or there for more info.
Thougt you all could do something with it.
For old-timers it is always difficult to get the original pressures, and if the tires chanched the advice pressures chanched.

The thing would ride like a buck board at that pressure. My 2¢.

Sorry I should have been more clear, the passenger car tires that take up to 51 psi (most are 44 or 32psi) I run close to max. Light truck tires with an 80psi max I run about 65psi in WITHOUT any load. My '47 I run about 55psi in and it rides good, but I also have hp gas charged shocks in the rear so it's a little bumpy :).
