I have a '46 Ford 1/2 ton pickup truck with 6.50 X 16 (4 ply polyester) Tires on it.

Curious ~ What Air Pressure have you been running in same size tires?

The manual doesn't reference this size tire. THANKS!

The manufacturer will give you a low tire pressure. He wants your truck to ride well. The tire manufacturer wants the tires to wear well so he will recommend a higher tire pressure.Usually, the tire itself will tell you the manufactures(tire) recommended pressure. James

The tire normally tells you the maximum recommended pressure.

I'd go with 30-32 and see how it goes.

Put higher pressure in for high speed or heavily loaded use. Probably only really on the rear, the fronts shouldn't need changing.

Generally higher pressures are safer.

Within reason.

I'd try 28- 30 in the front, 28-32 in the back depending on load.

Mart has got this one dead on correct. The pressure on the tire is in fact the MAXIMUM pressure the tire is built to hold. It has nothing to do with pressure recommended for any particular vehicle.
Your truck had a recommended pressure of 32# on all four. I doubt you're hauling heavy loads so there should be no need to run more pressure. Also, originally the tires were 6 ply to allow for the extra loads that may have been hauled way back when.
I'd suggest starting off as Mart said... You'll be pleased.

Okay Guys! GREAT help with the tire pressures! I've been running 30# all around and thought it may have too much. I'll have to check the sidewall for the maximum recommended.

When I was a kid we had 6 ply on all our old Ford pick ups and max on them was 45 PSI if I remember corrrectly. Our old F3 one ton had much heavier tires and they were 45 max. We definitely had to air them all the way up when we were hauling a bull or the water tank full of H2O.
