I have located an article by Mr. Enrique Klein in the “The Restorer” (Sep/Oct 1996) … "On Authenticity-The 1928-29 Model A Tire" which details of our discussion. Unfortunately, mine is a poor quality photocopy so the details in the photos are poor. Can someone with a scanner and the original magazine please post “Figure 7 & 9” on page 32 and the lower right photo in “Figure 13” of that article.
Interestingly, he describes the colors for the Goodyear tire as “… double red circle with red in the outer ring over the words GOODYEAR and USA and white in the center circle over CORD.”
My interpretation of this is that:
* the entire outer circle is red, including over the words GOODYEAR and USA
* the entire inner circle is white, including over the word CORD
This makes sense in that it would be unlikely that a technician would take the time to scrape the paint off the top surface of the letter. It might be possible that, in time, normal wear would eventually expose the surface of the letters.
I am told that Mr. Klein also has an article in the July-August 1997 “The Restorer” … "On Authenticity, Tires , A Summary ". I don’t know if it has the same/similar photos, but would appreciate someone checking/scanning/posting if there is useful pix.
