tire cracks

New tires are no guarantee against a flat tire. With tubes being what they are today you need to really pay attention to what is going on with your Model A as it is going down the road.

If the tires are nylon cord it shouldn't matter about small weather cracks. I've got Allstate nylon cord tires on my speedster. The spare tire was an Acme that I bought used. I got tired of hearing jokes about the road runner and the Acme kit and decided to just trash the Acme tire. I bought a nos Allstate on eBay. The tire looked perfect but was rayon cord, it must have been very old. I mounted the tire with the wheel mounted to the spare tire mount. I used Go Jo hand cleaner as a lubricant and the tire went on real good. I used a new tube and inflated the tire to 35 psi. While washing the Go Jo off my hands I heard a loud explosion, about like a shot gun. I was very disappointed to find my nos rayon Allstate tire and new tube blown out. Nylon cord tires are safe. I would avoid any rayon cord tire .
