Tips on head removal for 32 4cylinder

Help! I'm stuck. Trying to remove the head from a 4 cylinder to change to gasket. All the head bolts are off. Doesn't seem to budge despite gentle prying. Any tips would be greatly appreciated

People make up flat plates that sit on top of the studs and have a couple of long threaded rods adapted into old plugs. Screw the plugs in, the rods stick up, plates over the rods, nuts on and wind down. Havn't done it myself, but have seen pics somewhere.

Would the Model A people have more experience? Maybe worth trying over there.

I have actually had luck (with an engine that's still in the car) by removing and cleaning the studs, then replacing about half of them. Next loosely re-install the nuts then engage the starter. The compression is usually enough to break the seal between the block, head, and gasket. Sometimes it takes a few blows with a rubber mallet while it's turning over.
