Tips/ Installing glass to side window frames - '40 convertible

If you have the original glass, check it's thickness and compare to new glass. If the new glass is thicker you may not be able to use the rubber seals, if it's a little thinner or same, then should be ok. Other thing to check, width and height. If those are off it isn't going to go in.

I have NOS side glass.

On all the rag tops I have done I used silicone paste on the outer surface of the rubber seal after installing it on the glass . Turn the frame upside down on a towel and push down on the glass to start and use a rubber mallet to seat the glass . the access will clean off with a cloth.

Curious, did you confirm that the rubber was domestic ( I do feel simple for asking, knowing the level of your art ) Just cant deal our imports. Best wishes.

That is of course a GOOD question. It is from Drake so most likely China origin. Still, it compares very well to the authentic pieces I have.
When I get the new piece, I'll try again.

I must be having a brain cramp or something similar. No way should this be as difficult as I am finding it.

Success! After staying away from this a bit, I had finally got back to it.
All it really took was a little more aggression with the rubber mallet :) And, a liberal application of RuGlide...

Thanks to all who offered their advice.
