Timing gear installation

When installing the cam timing gear on a T there are two possible way to line up the pins from the gear to the cam. How do you know the correct way it goes? Thanks for the help ! Frank pkny

Thanks,
I did my last T about 30 years ago, and I think I got it wrong the first time, if I remember correctly! LOL

If the cam gear is changed and put on 180 degrees from where it was then the crankshaft ( when the marks are matched up) will be 360 degrees from where it was. As the saying goes " a distinction without a difference".

Thanks all , I was having trouble thinking this out!! The last T I did, I had something wrong in the timing gear area. Thinking may not have had the timing mark placed correctly. Maybe one tooth off! Know that I think about it. Frank pkny
