tillotson X float level

I set it so that the bottom edge of the float is 1" from the edge of the top half of the carb with the top half upside down (without gasket). Bend the float arm as needed with needle nose pliers.

I've never measured anything, just turned the disconnected top upside down and set the float eyeball "level" with the rest of the casting--as it says in the link supplied by MrTexas. I've never (knock knock) had any leaks or problems. Actually, my carb doesn't even leak if the fuel valve is not turned off.

I have always set my floats by eye, no matter what kind of carb.If the float is too high , it either leaks or stalls when braking or both. If the float is too low it pops and starves for fuel when attempting to accelerate.
