Tillotson carb adjustment

I'm current using a Zenith carburetor, but have a
Tillotson that I need to fix up for a spare. I tested it
yesterday on the coupe and it operates ok, but needs
some "TLC" including an adjustment on the float level.
My Les Andrews book addresses that issue on the Zenith
but not on the Tillotson. It's a Model "X" in case that
matters. Thanks for any info.

I run a tillotson, but, may not be of much help.. I can't remember a model number without looking.. I don't remember seeing a model number on it,but, its been awhile.. I don't think I ever had a 'level' figure,, seems I just set it ' level ' and it runs OK.. It seems the Zenith may be a little fussier about fuel height than the Tilly..

The float height is 1". Remember theres a gasket under the needle valve.

The book adjustment for the Zenith calls for 5/8s. The Tilly is measured from the flange to the top of the float at the soldered joint.

Thanks, Mr. Texas for the excellent pictures of the Tilly
carburetor. I just rebuilt my spare Zenith, and now with
your fine pictures, I'm sure my Tilly will turn out nicely as well.
One can never have too many spare carbs!

Naive about float measurements here. I see the 1.00 dimension quite a bit on here. Can someone give me a detailed description of where to measure that? I get the part that it's hanging upside down and measured from the gasket flange, but to what part of the float?

thanks

Normally measured to the top of the seam line. The TOP being as mounted in the normal position.

Jack, this is a good website for repair and restoration of a Tilly. The measurement for the float is 1". Turn the body upside down so that the float is engaging the needle valve and measure from the body base where the gasket goes to the top of the seam of the float. Should be 1". I know that I have read somewhere, where some like to set it at 1 1/8". Mine is set between the two and seems to run OK - apart from the occasional leak.
