Tillitson carb that looks like a zenith?

I have a 1928 AA truck that at some point has had a 1930 engine and transmission put in it. I got ready to rebuild the carb and when I looked in the Mac's book, it had a kit for a zenith, and a tillitson. Mine says tillitson on the side, and is pot metal instead of cast iron so I bought the tillitson kit, when it got here it is not right! My tillitson looks a lot like a zenith by looking at the shape of the fuel bowl, round not square.

I know the tillitson kit will not work, and by looking at the pics in the Mac's book I don't think a zenith kit will work either.

I am totally new to model A's so I don't know if this is a common carb, or what kit I might have to find.

I'm really not even sure I need a kit now, I cleaned everything really well, and it seems to be working fine, but if I do need one in the future it would be nice to know what carb I actually have. I'll add a couple pics, even though it is kinda hard to see in them.

That is an early tillitson carb sold by the auto parts stores of the time, like western auto. I dont know of any parts available, but someone may have a supplier. My father had one of those on his car in the 60;s and it did not perform well.

If carb kits for some carbs aren't available, or if they have a ridicules price tag, then I just cut my own gaskets. Almost never would need a jet, and the needle and seat can often be found from another carb or carb kit that will fit.

It's either a Tillotson F-1A or a Tillotson F-1B. It will say what it is on the very top on a molded type nut. If you go to refresh it, you will find that the drilled passages are smaller than the drilled passages in a Zenith or Holley. Also, you will find that the jets are no longer made. And, you will find that the flow thru rates of the jets for a Model 1A or a Model 1B (it fits both a Model A engine and a Model B engine if the Model B engine has Model A engine manifolds) can't be found on the internet (in my experience). That leaves you with buying another Tillotson F-1A or F-1B and scavanging parts and testing on a car, or getting a Tillotson X/XF because parts are readily available, or going with the usual Zenith/Holly/Ford carb.

You can get a gasket kit from Smith & Jones Model A, I think the needle valve and the float may be the same as the Zenith A carb. I have one of these on my A and it runs fine. :)
