If you can get at, and take off the inspection plate on the top of the trans, and see down inside you may be able to see what's going on when you depress the clutch pedal. A feeler gauge between the TO bearing surface and clutch fingers when the pedal is released may tell you whether it is spec. (.100), or where you are at.

In order to check this out for noise is put the car down on its wheels.
Now put in neutral and press clutch do you hear any noise. yes or no. if yes put in gear does the noise stop. If yes its trans bearing.
