Throttle Lever Question

Earlier today I took a little cruise out to the country to go to the farmers market, there is a stretch of two lane, probably 40 or 45 mph that goes for about 11 miles with no stops. Is it OK to use the throttle Lever to keep a constant speed, kind of like cruise control, or is that not a recommended thing to do.

Thanks, Nick

Remember the Model T was actually controlled with the throttle lever, it did not have a accelerator pedal but the operator was used to that and it was not dangerous because it was 2nd nature to them at the time, I personally do not use the throttle lever because I do not feel I can react quickly enough if I have a situation.

I use the throttle lever a lot when I need to re-position my foot, or just give it a rest.

Thanks guys, I was aware of the throttle on the Model T, just wanted to make sure it was an acceptable practice

I'm laughing at this thread a bit as my siblings and I grew up in visiting my grandmother's farm operated by my three old bachelor brother uncles. We were not anything but city kids, so driving the small Fordson tractor was not a second nature thing for us. My uncle let us ride in his lap and drive through all the fields and over berms and all in the pasture. Pretty safe most of the time, but I do recall my sister once scaring the heck out of him as she accidentally slapped the throttle lever down fully after hitting a bump and the tractor lurched several feet up into the air at the nose until the large rear tires took hold and it sped away out into the open pasture. A brown shorts moment for him for sure back then.

She learned how to drive the thing and loved doing it, but I have to admit that I never had the nerve to ride with her after that display. Afterwards I always envisioned her doing a major tractor pull event and taking home a trophy prize or two. My uncle had more patience and nerve than I in teaching her how to operate that old tractor.

I loved using my throttle control with my tudor and used it often when I had that car. Never had an issue with it. However, it is not a cruise control and you do have to remain vigilant for safety sake as it can be dangerous in some situations. Mostly with crazy drivers on the roads or the unexpected happening. Keep alert, but have fun.
