throttle lever notches

My recently purchased 30 A 2-door sedan has no horn button on the steering column, just a decorative flat plate, and no discernable "notches" felt as mentioned in starting procedure.

Someone previously installed a horn button on the side panel by the left foot.

My question is how many "notches " are there between "top" and the "end" positions of the lever. Actually I guess I need to know both levers "notches".

Thanks, Dick

The notches aren't really important unless your levers are too loose. My notches are worn so smooth I can't feel them. As you get to know your car you will learn the proper positions of the levers when starting and driving, without paying attention to the notches.

Replacement horn buttons are available from any of the parts sellers, if you want to fix it. You may have to remove the steering column to replace it.

I read an article some where . that there was 11 notches, each notch represents 5 mile an hour. But as Sparky said there not that important. I doubt that you'll find very many that aren't worn smooth. Always start car with lever all the way up, fully retarded , about 3/4 down will be about right for normal driving.

Same here- file the notches. But it really is a 'thing' that is not that important in actual driving, as other posters have said. I just like to have it 'the way it was', so I re-notch them.

Might I suggest that instead of filing the notches, use a torch to heat the quadrant notches until red and then use an anvil to back up the quadrant and a blunt chisel and hammer on the front side to redefine the notches as this repositions the metal instead of removing it.
