Thread tools

You are reading a post from a really computer-challenged person, and to anyone else on this forum who may fall in the same catagory, I discovered something I will pass on...

Every once in a while I will read a thread that I would somehow like to keep on hand for future reference. The search thing is fine, but it brings up any threads with the search word in it, and you have to find it.

If you look on the orange bar above the thread, you will see "Thread Tools". Click on tht and you will see a choice for mailing the thrad to someone. Mail it to yourself. You now have the entire thread in your inbox and you can store it in a seperate file.

The computer propeller-heads out there probably have a simpler way, but this is easy for me.

The problem with the "thread tools" method is that it only saves the link to the thread. If the server goes off line like the old barn did you lose the thread. On internet explorer you can go to File, Save As. It should default as a web archive single file *.mht file. It will save the complete thread offline on your computer including any pics. It only save the page that is loaded. If there are multiple pages to the thread, first select "view all" from the fordbarn message index to load the complete thread before saving. You can use this to save any web page from any web site to your computer.
