Thompson Products information

Many of the TRW parts kept the same numbers as TP had after the name change. I have been looking for some old TRW or Thompson catalogs but so far I haven't found any quite old enough. I have one from 1973 and have verified certain chassis parts for the Fords but the Mercury stuff stops at 1952 and both of mine are 1951 models.

Charles Thompson was an older man than Ramo or Wooldridge were but he had big bucks and an impressive list of patents under his belt. With his backing and the genius of Simon Ramo & Dean Wooldridge took TRW all the way to the moon & back. I think that Simon Ramo is still kicking at the young age of 102 years old. Now that's some good genes there.

These are spring shackles. I searched the TRW catalog to no avail. I've narrowed it down to fitting something between 1926 (when Cleveland Cap Screw Company changed its name to Thompson Products Inc), and 1958 (when Thompson Products merged with Ramo-Wooldridge) :D

Ah well, such as it is. Probably end up in my swap meet pile.

On a lighter note, after ten years I'm finally a Ford owner again, although it will be a while before my 2014 F150 becomes a classic :)

I have a 1940 Thompson catalog. If it's a short list of part numbers, shoot me a message with your numbers and I'll have a look.

Andy, sorry but I can't help on those numbers. My TRW catalog only covers the engine parts. They must have put the chassis parts in a different catalog.

Andy69,

I have a April, 1951 TP catalog covering cars, trucks & busses from 1928-1951, including some Canadian built models. I went through the catalog looking for the numbers you listed and found nothing on the SU843 or the SU851 numbers. Please check the numbers and see if any of those two were typo's.

I did find the following for you:

T735: (all Chevrolet - RRHR & RLHR positions)
1934 Model DA
1935 Model EA
1935 Model FA
1936 Model FC
1937 GC (1/2T Truck)
1937- 1938 Series 10; 12

SU835: (all Studebaker - RRHR & RLHF position)
1936 Model 2C; 3C
1937 Model J5; L5 (truck)
1938 Model 4C; 7A; 8A
1939 Model 5C; 9A
1938-1939 Model K5 (Truck)

I probably should know what the position initials stand for, but it's not calculating in the old noggin' this morning, but the choices were:
FRHF
FRHR
FLHF
FLHR
RRHF
RRHR
RLHF
RLHR

Pretty sure "FR__" is front right and "RL__" is rear right, but not sure about "__HR" and "__HF". Anybody able to help out?

-Bob
