I know it is not a Ford part, but I have a Auto Ordnance Corp. Thompson 1928A1 submachinegun (Military version) for display (not functional) and would like to build it to the version you can see in these 30th gangsters movies with a round magazine and a forward grip. Does anybody of you have one of these 50 shooter drum magazines and such a forward grip, that would work on my submachine gun? Thanks for your help, Alex

Alex,
here,s a pic. of mine that i put in my 1931 at car shows along with my old boater,s straw hat, i get a lot of good comments about the display.
they were a part of our history with the car's and gangster's of the 30's.
i don't want to boor the purest, but if you will email me i will give you all the info. you need. lboos1@yahoo.com

Louis and Jim, your barrels appear to be too long to be 1928 models.
Here is a pic of a 28 with stock 10 1/2 inch barrel.

I have an airsoft replica that I have with the car. While the signle shot toys are no longer available there is still an Airsoft gun you can get that will look fine.

I know the side is not on the top on this gun.

I feel you are asking for trouble if you are displaying a real firearm. Replicas are available if need be......john

John,
it is a real firearm, but with a welded and bored body (you can't see from outside) and a stamp from the arms departement in Germany, that it is now a not functional gun. Besides, I bought it this way.
Thanks, Alex

Have the gun, only need this round magazine and the foreward grip.
Thanks, Alex

The link to Gun Parts Corp (Numerich Arms) is listed on post # 7 by Kahuna. They would be the best bet for foreign purchase. I'm not sure if it is legal to export certain parts. 50 round drums are expensive and purchase may be controled by the government. You will also need to know if you have a slot under the barrel for the fore grip and if so, what width the slot is. I'm not sure if the 28A1 had this or no.

At least you can get the part numbers from them if nothing else.

My Dad was in the Big Red One in WWII, and carried one of these. He loved it!!

Jeff,
my grandfathers and the brothers of my grandparents fight on the other side and they surely don't love them. Okay, they where mostly in Russia, only one of them was in Africa before and was hurt by such a gun. He died after that during a fight in Russia later. Bad times.

A 1928 Thompson should take a drum without modification, an M1 Thompson will not accept a drum, only stick mags. The vertical foregrip will fit on the 1928 as well without modification. You can often find parts for these on gunbroker.com, the grip shouldn't be too expensive, but a drum will run you several hundred dollars. The drums were made in 50 or 100 round capacities originally, there are repro ones out there but they are expensive too. You may find a 10 round repro drum (CA compliant) which may be less expensive.
Good Luck
